THE POWDERHORN CHATEAU, Ohakune

Twin Suites feature a queen bed, a single bed, a lounge area, a work desk, and a bathroom; balcony rooms are available. The Two-Bedroom Chalet, a 5-minute walk from the hotel, features a master suite, a twin room convertible to a king suite, 2 bathrooms, an open-plan living and dining area, a full kitchen with dishwasher and laundry, and a double garage. The Powderkeg Restaurant & Bar serves seasonal cuisine. The Matterhorn Grill is open for breakfast during summer, from 7 AM to 10:30 AM. French doors open onto a balcony for diners. Douglas Fir beams, Macrocarpa, Redwood and Douglas Fir linings, Rimu tables, bar-tops and benches are exhibited throughout the building. The Powderkeg hosts a yearly tree planting event in Ohakune. The restaurants source products from local suppliers.

The Powderhorn Chateau is near the dual heritage Tongariro National Park and the Turoa ski field. The hotel is 100 km from Whanganui. Taupo domestic airport is a 1-hour and 30-minute drive. Mount Tongariro, is one of the locations where Peter Jackson shot 'The Lord of the Rings' film trilogy. Some of the best fishing is from the Manganui-O-Te-Ao river. The hotel is situated at the start of The Old Coach Road.
